Sexual and Reproductive Health Interventions in South India
This summer, I will be continuing my work with Hygiene Heroes, a non-profit organization focused on teaching preventative health to a global audience. As a part of this organization, I am working on a project involved in creating curriculums and activities to teach South Indian women about sexual and reproductive health (SRH), such as menstrual hygiene, domestic abuse, and family planning. I will continue working with a rural women empowerment organization in Karnataka, India, called Jnanavikasa (JVK) to determine the best interventions and pilot the materials I have created. While creating teaching material, I will conduct a thorough needs assessment of the women within JVK to understand the perceptions around SRH topics and create material tailored to the needs of the women. I am planning a trip to Southern India to survey women in person and understand how Jnanavikasa’s self-help groups have been helping women for decades.

I am incredibly grateful for my donor and the recognition of my project. My family is from Karnataka, India, so this project is close to my heart. I have seen many women in my family get affected by the stigma around women's health, and I am passionate about equipping women with the tools they need to stand up for themselves and have autonomy. This funding will help me pursue my project on a larger scale over the summer.
