Rose Hills Summer Scholarships
Sponsored by the Rose Hills Foundation, Rose Hills Summer Scholarships enable UC Berkeley students from STEM disciplines immerse themselves in full-time summer research. Open to sophomores, juniors, and seniors, the fellowship supports both faculty-led and independent projects. To be eligible, students must be US Citizens with permanent residence in Southern California and be majoring in select STEM majors. The scholarship provides students with $5000 in summer funding.
Rose Hills Summer Scholarships supports sophomores, juniors and seniors conducting STEM-oriented research during the summer months. Students may be either pursuing a faculty-led project or an independent project of their own design. For sophomores, the funding may support their involvement in a faculty-led project. For juniors and seniors, the funding may support research that will lead to a senior honor thesis or capstone project. For graduating seniors, this fellowship allows further development of research that may lead to publication. The scholarship provided selected students with summer stipends of $5,000.
ELIGIBILITY:
To be eligible for a Rose Hills Summer Scholarship, you must:
- Be a matriculating student at UC Berkeley. Visiting and Extensions students are not eligible to apply.
- Have a 3.5 GPA (Students with a GPA between 3.0 and 3.5 should apply and will be considered for funding but the award will be contingent on special approval from the Rose Hills Foundation)
- Have standing as a sophomore, junior, or senior according to your Cal Central profile at the time of application. (Graduating seniors must graduate no earlier than Spring 2025).
- Be a U.S. Citizen with permanent residence established in one of the following counties in Southern California:
- San Diego County
- Imperial County
- Orange County
- Riverside County
- Santa Barbara County
- Ventura County
- Los Angeles County
- San Bernardino County
- Be sponsored by a UC Berkeley, UCSF, CHORI, or LBNL faculty member or lab scientist / Principal Investigator
- Have declared (or intend to declare) in one of the eligible majors:
- Integrative Biology
- Microbial Biology
- Molecular & Cell Biology
- Genetics & Plant Biology
- Molecular & Environmental Biology
- Earth & Planetary Science
- Nutritional Science (including: Toxicology, Dietetics, and Physiology & Metabolism)
- Conservation & Resource Studies

- Marine Science

Rose Hills fellows from previous summers are eligible to reapply
PROGRAM COMMITMENTS:
As terms of their award, recipients of Rose Hills Summer Scholarships must agree to:
- Complete at least 7 weeks of full-time research on the project they proposed;
- Submit materials for their web profile (headshot and project abstract) by the deadline specified in the contract;
- Complete an exit survey that describes the impact of the research experience on professional and academic plans after graduation;
- Submit a final report related to the summer research
