California Advancing and Innovating Medi-Cal (CalAIM) Evaluation

CalAIM is a long-term commitment to making Medi-Cal, California’s Medicaid program, more equitable, coordinated, and person-centered through a variety of initiatives and services. The goal of the CalAIM evaluation components I will be working on is to assess the implementation and impact of two CalAIM initiatives: Providing Access and Transforming Health (PATH) and Community Supports. PATH focuses on developing provider capacity to implement new Enhanced Care Management (ECM), Community Supports, and re-entry benefits in Medi-Cal, while Community Supports are 14 new Medi-Cal services intended to improve members’ health and well-being by addressing their health-related social needs. This summer, I will contribute to the evaluation by continuing to analyze data from managed care plan interviews on ECM and Community Supports implementation and co-author a paper on lessons learned by managed care plans in scaling these services statewide. I will also work as part of a team to conduct literature reviews and code interviews from medical respite providers to support a paper assessing CalAIM’s impact on medical respite programs.

Message To Sponsor

I am truly grateful to the donors who made it possible for me to continue my research over the summer without a financial burden. The more I interact with patients, the more I realize the importance of programs like Medi-Cal, and it is an honor to have the opportunity to help improve access to healthcare.
